When selecting a chapter in a Blu-ray switch menu, the screen flickers to black in a very short period of time to display the thumbnail. Is it normal?

Question - No blue ray option in output for authoring works 4 No.1009
cliff    Mail / )  2010/02/04 (Thu) 14:51 ( ID:wnzc/tayr8. )  [ Edit / Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I am trying to take standard def DVD files edited in womble, import them into TMP Authoring Works 4 to put in the menu structure and then output the project to blue ray since the file size is about 13 gigs. I do not get an option to output to blue ray in the options across the top of the program, my only option is for DVD. I can set the file size to none so that the program will save it to file; however, I can't get this to write to Blue Ray (either from within TMP or with Power Producer 5 ultra) due to incorrect file structure for Blue Ray. Anyone have any suggestions? Thanks.

tkrave  2010/02/04 (Thu) 18:02 ( ID:lgrl8ryjzyl )  [ Edit / Delete / Reply with quotation ]

You need to select your output format in the Start stage, before you begin importing your video. Once you begin your project, you won't be able to change output formats unless you start a new project.

Question - Can you edit a premade template? No.1007
probello    Mail / )  2010/02/03 (Wed) 20:52 ( ID:ksunkwvlopj )  [ Edit / Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I use one of the premade templates but was wondering if there is a way to edit it?

tkrave  2010/02/03 (Wed) 22:34 ( ID:lgrl8ryjzyl )  [ Edit / Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Not really in the sense that you can't move things around that are already there.

Here's some things you can do though (with the premade templates):
-Change fonts, font color, size, and style for any editable text.
-Add non-functioning menu items such as images, text.
-Change highlight colors.
-Change the thumbnail image for tracks/chapters.
-Add effects to any menu item.
-Add background music.

Question - Does TAW 4 support TDA 3 project files? No.1003
Bob  2010/02/02 (Tue) 22:09 ( ID:5naf9/4evxn )  [ Edit / Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Does TAW 4 support projects created with DVD Author 3?

Thanks!

tkrave  2010/02/03 (Wed) 01:14 ( ID:lgrl8ryjzyl )  [ Edit / Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Yes, it can read DVD Author 2 and DVD Author 3 project files. However, there's no guarantee that the menus will behave exactly the same.
If you used pre-installed templates or menu items from TDA2 or TDA3, it will try to use the same templates/items if it exists in TAW4. If you used a template that doesn't exist in TAW4, I think it will convert it to a different template.

Bob  2010/02/03 (Wed) 16:56 ( ID:5naf9/4evxn )  [ Edit / Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Thanks tkrave. One more question...if I install the free trial of TAW4 will it render my TDA3 useless? I would not think so but want to be sure.

Thanks.

tkrave  2010/02/03 (Wed) 19:36 ( ID:lgrl8ryjzyl )  [ Edit / Delete / Reply with quotation ]

No, the trial will not do anything to TDA3.

If you choose to buy TAW4 and use the upgrade option, then it will render your TDA3 license useless. However, using the User Discount option will let you keep your TDA3 license.

Question - TAW4 utilize only 40% cpu No.1002
evdrmr  2010/02/01 (Mon) 21:18 ( ID:9lvjkoljcgo )  [ Edit / Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Hello, I've recently upgraded my CPU from Intel C2D E6420 to C2Q Q8400 and the problem that I experience is that with the old CPU TAW4 utilized 100% CPU and with the new one it utilizes only 40-50%. I checked my program preferences and everything looks correct - one physical cpu with 4 cores...all instructions checked. I have no idea what would have caused the problem...

My computer specifications are:
Asus P5K Deluxe
Intel C2Q E8400
4GB DDR2 800MHz
ATI Radeon HD4870
RAID0
Win7 x64

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Free talk - TMPGEnc Authroing Works is inferior in handling mp4 No.1001
kaare  2010/02/01 (Mon) 19:17 ( ID:hda7dyazagk )  [ Edit / Delete / Reply with quotation ]

A couple of weeks ago I posted a question about mp4 files - how to avoid that TMPEGEnc Authoring Works (TAW) turns pitch black color into white. No one has answered. But now I've learned that TAW is inferior when it comes to handling mp4 files, and I've learned how to do it: First convert the mp4 to mpeg or VOB with Free Video Converter (FVC), and then import the mpeg or VOB file into TAW. (Either ignore the VOB warning in TAW, or rename the VOB to mpg first.) Added bonus: It took 16-17 hours (!) for TAW to convert a 5 GB mp4 file to DVD output. FVC converted it to VOB in just 2 hours, and after that it took only 1 hour for TAW to convert it to DVD.

Question - How to use vobsub No.1000
Mark  2010/02/01 (Mon) 15:16 ( ID:3oqwdmijxya )  [ Edit / Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I used to create hardsubbed dvds using vobsub with tmpgenc.
I now have Windows 7 with tmpgenc authoring works 4 and it is
not automatically pulling in Vobsub. Is this because ffdshow is
not being used (older versions of tmpgenc let you increase the priority
of ffdshow)? The subtitle functionality in tmpgenc doesn't fit my
needs so I really hope someone can tell me how to make vobsub
work again. Thanks.

Question - Got 'Beep' sound after encoded No.999
polywave  2010/01/31 (Sun) 08:01 ( ID:ioswgeajzrf )  [ Edit / Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I have put 4 avi file into a DVD. By using TMPGEnc Authoring Work 4, everything seems OK. However, when I play the DVD, one of the file got only 'beep' sound. The other 3 is OK with sound. Anyone has any idea about that?

tkrave  2010/02/04 (Thu) 18:19 ( ID:lgrl8ryjzyl )  [ Edit / Delete / Reply with quotation ]

It sounds like an audio codec problem. The audio codec for that vid may have crashed during output. Try outputting that file by itself without the other 3 avi's and see if it the problem still occurs.

polywave  2010/02/05 (Fri) 01:28 ( ID:ioswgeajzrf )  [ Edit / Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I have already tried to encode just that chip but the sound is OK. Is there any setting may affect this. I just choose the auto. Pls help

Question - TMPGEnc having problem with copy protection No.997
tonylamont    Mail / )  2010/01/30 (Sat) 21:53 ( ID:lrka8ud9jrn )  [ Edit / Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I've never seen an AVI like this before. On the beginning of it were all sorts of warnings about copy protection etc. It went on a long time! Anyway TMPGEnc burned the movie and it played back fine, but there was no sound, and there was sound in the raw file. Did TMPGEnc pick up on the copyright protection and that's what caused the completed burn to not have sound? CopyXtoDVD recorded it and it played back just fine!

Request - Question about motion menu No.995
polywave  2010/01/29 (Fri) 22:17 ( ID:ioswgeajzrf )  [ Edit / Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I use TMPGEnc Authoring Works 4.0.5.27. I put 4 clip into a DVD. I enable the motion menu and set for 30 sec. In the top menu, each clip play its own motion. However, is it possible to set the motion menu start in different time frame in each clip. As they all start at the beginning but I would like to start at the middle for some clip. Pls help.

tkrave  2010/01/30 (Sat) 01:31 ( ID:lgrl8ryjzyl )  [ Edit / Delete / Reply with quotation ]

After you've activated motion menus, double-click on the thumbnails that you want to change. The menu item editor window should appear and you can set the start and end points of the thumbnail.

Question - Slideshow Zooming, what I like about AW4 and my wish list No.992
Brian Ward    Mail / )  2010/01/28 (Thu) 17:00 ( ID:7x567/.bfvm )  [ Edit / Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I'm still using the trial version of AW4 - deciding whether to buy (I already own DVD Author 1.6 which does nearly all I need except the slideshow editor).

In the slideshow editor, using "Local transition and resize" on a picture, you can drag to select a red rectangle. I was execting it to zoom in to the selected area, but all it does is vaguely zoom in a little bit roughly towards where I selected. Am I expecting too much or is this broken?

AW4 seems to be a much more capable and better user interface than Instant show - which seems a bit strange (eg no proper subtitle feature and unable to control video encoding in Instant Show)

SUGGESTIONS TO MAKE AW4 THE BEST SLIDESHOW SOFTWARE AVAILABLE:
- More than one sound file per channel per slideshow track
- Read image EXIF data for subtitles
- Easier subtitle editing for slideshows - it's hard work manually selecting the start and end point for each picture's subtitle, and a nightmare if you re-order your images
- Increase the maximum image count per title (why only 200?)
- Get the zooming working properly for Ken Burns effects.

WHAT I LIKE ABOUT AW4
- True subtitles
- Able to control video encoding. When you don't use zoom or transitions you only need the minimum bitrate of 1520 - letting you add thousands of images (most slideshow software will only give you a two hour slideshow on a 4.7GB DVD).
- Dolby Digital
- Good user interface
- No useless gimmicks

Can anyone help?

Do you have the right codec installed? Use GSpot to find the right codec and make sure you have it.

I converted an AVI file (which has sound) and when I converted it to DVD there was no sound. The audio format is AC3. How do I get sound into my projects?

Thanks

It might be a codec problem. What codecs does the avi file use?

corwyn77    Mail / )  2010/01/22 (Fri) 06:59 ( ID:j.htfjymdam )  [ Edit / Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Has this error come up for anyone else?

I have 6 open projects currently and only one of them gives the above error when I try to open it. It worked yesterday, now it doesn't. I haven't updated anything since then - not with this program or windows or anything else.

I'm running Windows 7 and until now have had no issues.

Request - Delete Subs from Avi/Mkv files No.985
Wilfredo    Mail / Home  2010/01/20 (Wed) 15:41 ( ID:6kgnkpdslu. )  [ Edit / Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I would really like to be able to delete or add a sub to a file that has already a sub embedded. ConvertXtoDVD is able to do that, but I don't like to work with that program, that's why I use TMPGEnc Authoring Works.

It's as simple as that. Why do I need to use another program to delete subs from mkv and/or avis?

I just want to import my video, select the subtitle and delete it to add my own.

Please, can someone reply on this?

Question - Authering Works Wont install on WIndows 7 x64 No.982
JSchmelzer    Mail / )  2010/01/19 (Tue) 06:16 ( ID:ng9qmudxezc )  [ Edit / Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I get the error below when trying to install the software. At my work we started doing web cast and I recommended this software and it kinda back-lashed we financed having this ordered so I can make DVD for people with out internet so they do not miss presentation of new upcoming policies and such. But the error is below any help would be great also I have tried compatibility mode. So you know we just switched to Windows 7 Enterprise x64. I did test on my machine at home to get the work done but it runs Windows 7 Home Starter and a net book is no way to do this as it takes forever.

"This version TAW4_Retail_4.0.7.32_setup_en.exe is not compatible with the version of Windows you're running. Check your computer's system information to see whether you need a x86 (32-bit) or x64 (64-bit) version of the program, and then contact the software publisher."

Thanks for the help in advance,
James

tkrave  2010/01/19 (Tue) 23:03 ( ID:lgrl8ryjzyl )  [ Edit / Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Not really sure why it wouldn't work. I haven't tried it on Windows 7 x64 myself, but I think other forum users have been able to install it without issue.

So you've tried it with and without compatibility mode and no change?

I'm wondering if the fact that it's the Enterprise edition is part of the problem.
Are you running in administrator mode?

Maybe it's also a bad download of the installer. Try to redownload it.

You might also want to contact user support about this as they might now something we don't:

Question - How to burn previous disc image No.981
CM    Mail / )  2010/01/19 (Tue) 01:57 ( ID:ehau3cfzoul )  [ Edit / Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Just downloaded the AW4 and can't seem to find a way to import a previously written Video_ts file. I am trying to create a dvd that will play as letterbox 4:3 in standard tV and 16:9 full screen on capable mopnitors. I don't see a way to set the 16:9 switch and have made the adjustment using the Infedit program.
How do you bring a previouls created dvd file back into AW4. The Disk writing tool only gives me the option to make a disc image and the other menu tabs fail to function.

kaare  2010/01/19 (Tue) 09:29 ( ID:hda7dyazagk )  [ Edit / Delete / Reply with quotation ]

First of all: VIDEO_TS is not a disc image, it is a folder containing DVD files.
You import the VIDEO_TS folder to AW4 by selecting to import "From a DVD, ...", and then you chose "From a folder", and then you selct the VIDEO_TS folder. When that is done, you go to the Menu tab, and there you specify the aspect ratio of the menu, either 4:3 or 16:9.

Question - TMPGEnc suddenly unresponsive No.980
janlafata    Mail / )  2010/01/16 (Sat) 07:02 ( ID:lrka8ud9jrn )  [ Edit / Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I have TMPGEnc Authoring Works 4.0.7.32 and am running it on Vista x64. The company says it cannot guarantee that it will work on x64 but it's been working fine for the past six months except until today when, after I input all of my project settings and loaded a video file I got an error message that said" Could not find a usable media writer drive. You cannot use the media writer function"

The first thing I did was check in device manager to see if my two LG DVD burners are ok and they are, then I did some test burns on my other burning software and they worked fine, so it has to be in the program, however I uninstalled, then reinstalled it and I got the same thing.

Also I know it's not the media because it will not even start the transcoding phase and you don't even need a disc in at that point to see if it's working or not.

I assuming that all of a sudden it has decided it will not work with the two LG burners so it would be real easy to just go ahead and by two newer models, but that's almost a shame because the LG's have just worked flawlessly, however I really like this program so I might just go ahead and get two new ones. Also I did try updating the firmware on them but that didn't help. I'm stunped!

After login on the Pegasysy site only the old version 4.0.7.32 is available for download. I am the only one to have this?

That's the latest version for Authoring Works 4.

TMPGEnc 4.0 XPress is the software that was recently updated.
